It’s Carnival day in Royal Wootton Bassett on 16th May and once again, the committee have organised a full day of fun and entertainment for all the family.

  • Entertainment and displays from 10am in Borough Fields
  • Classic car display around the Town Hall
  • Carnival procession leaves Marlowe Way at 4.30pm
  • Procession will reach the High Street at around 6.00 – 6.30pm

Classic Car Display

Always a popular attraction, a selection of vintage and classic cars will be on display from 10am outside the Town Hall.

We’re delighted that Wootton Bassett Car Club have agreed to hold a display on Carnival Day this year. For the young, it’s an opportunity to see some vintage cars for the first time and for the the oldies, maybe you owned one, or always wanted one! There will be lots of photo opportunities and the owners will be on-hand to answer any questions you may have.

Fine Art Demonstration

We are extremely lucky to be hosting a demonstration by professional artist, Robert Paul Art. Specialising in wildlife, pets and portraits, Robert Paul takes commissions for original pieces in charcoal, gouache, oils, pencil crayon, pastel and watercolour.

Robert Paul Art will be demonstrating in Borough Fields from 10am. He will be working on a number of paintings and explaining the process of how a picture comes to life.

Carnival Procession

The Carnival procession will leave Marlowe Way at 4.30pm, turn right onto Stoneover Lane and on to Noremarsh Road. It then heads up Station Road and finally reaching the High Street at around 6.00pm – 6.30pm. Please be aware that a rolling road closure will be implemented during the procession so be prepared for delays if you are travelling by car along any of the route.

  • The procession will include the following:
  • The Bournemouth Carnival Band
  • Swindon Samba
  • Devizies Major Wrecks
  • Bluebelle Majorettes
  • Bang to Rites
  • Wootton Bassett Fire Service
  • Heart FM
  • + all the community groups & individuals who will be entering the procession

Money Raised

All donations collected during the procession go towards running the event, paying for insurance, hiring radios, closing the roads and of course paying for the professional entertainment. The Carnival is run by volunteers, so no-one gets paid for organising it – we run the Carnival because we love our town and the event is so important to the community.

It costs over £4,000 to run the event, so donations from the whole community are vital to its survival. We are especially grateful to all the local businesses who help us. Without their contributions, our Carnival would not happen.

Scarrott’s Fun Fair

When the procession comes to an end at Lime Kiln, the family fun fair will open on The Showfield.

It’s free entry into the fair and with family rides, children’s rides, side stalls and refreshments, there’s something for all ages.
